| Are Contact Lenses Suitable For Children? |
A common misconception is that contact lenses are not suitable for children. However, a child’s eyes can physically tolerate contact lenses at a very young age. In some instances, babies have been fit with contact lenses due to conditions present at birth. Recent studies have shown that approximately 90% of children can successfully insert and remove without parental supervision, and are actually more compliant then most teens when it comes to contact lens hygiene.
Children adapt well to contact lenses. They experience fewer complications. If infections occur, they heal faster due to a stronger immune system. With changing technology in contact lenses, such as daily disposable lenses, contact lenses are easier to care for than ever before. They are also a safer alternative than glasses for active children, eyeglasses are vulnerable to breakage.
Contact lenses are a great option for you child. Through routine examinations, your optometrist can best determine whether or not contact lenses are suitable for your child. If you child does not adapt to contact lenses right away, it is always an alternative in the future.
